Hi to all of our Spring Garden Shareholders,
There are still things to harvest at the garden including an abundance of eggplant. (Thanks, Diane!) Swiss chard and kale are ever-bearing and the tomatoes are starting to be eaten up by bugs since we aren’t out there plucking them off. The herbs are producing wonderfully. I’m enjoying bites of my bowl of fresh pesto and pasta as we speak.
The ground cover has been planted and only the tomatoes remain in the big garden. The herbs need weeding and there are stink bugs attacking the Swiss chard. Nancy asks that when you harvest the herbs that you weed a row while you are there. Bring gloves, those weeds with the thorns are the biggest battle and in case you don’t have access to the garden tools, you may want to bring your own (just for the summer). Nicole was out there this morning and weeded some, but didn’t have the means to get around those big thorny things!
In the next week or so you will be hearing about plans for the fall garden. We are working out the seed order. If you plan to participate, whether by continuing as a shareholder or by renting a plot of your own, please confirm with Nancy by email or respond below that Yes you are confirming for next season. It is very important that we know this when we put in the seed order.
I am looking forward to a new season of the food and friendships we have grown in our garden! I don’t know about you, but I miss them both.
