The Spring 2012 season is now over. We’ll be planting our summer cover crop to fortify the main garden and keep the weeds in check. A cover crop is a crop that adds mulch or nitrogen back into the soil. It’s a way to bring much needed nutrition into the soil without fertilizers. In addition, it keeps the weeds from growing during the summer. By the time we’re ready to replant in the fall, the soil will be ready to start producing again. Its not so much the seeds, or our efforts in knowing how to garden, its the soil that is the key to growing vegetables packed with all the minerals, vitamins, and trace elements that our bodies crave.
